In the recent years there is an increasing displeasure among the business community over the spent on application support and maintenance (ASM). ASM is the cost of failure. If the application development happens with appropriate architecture and design and adequate testing happens, the ASM cost must ideally be zero. However, the business leaders are burning a substantial amount in the ASM and there is no light visible in the tunnel. In this paper we are consolidating our experience in doing ASM for a few key customers in the past 6 years and proposing an approach to optimize the ASM spend and have a high availability, high reliability application estate.
