FACE TO FACE
Below and inset: Carl Cloos Schweißtechnik GmbH held its annual customer conference, the CLOOS Tech Day, on 8 May 2025.
SP: India and Southeast Asia are expected to significantly expand their manufacturing capacities in the coming years. In North America, I believe our welding expertise is unmatched. While many regions have welding integrators, there are few OEMs capable of customising and adapting welding technologies to specific customer needs.
ISMR: Where do you see the greatest challenges and opportunities?
AI in several R & D areas and are building a young, dynamic team to accelerate our adoption of this technology. AI helps us optimise processes, detect defects and implement predictive maintenance. Smart algorithms enable adaptive welding and realtime parameter adjustments, while AI-driven analytics improve uptime and reduce scrap rates.
We continue to invest in AI research and development and collaborate with technology partners to stay at the forefront of innovation.
ISMR: Which issues are of prime importance for your customers and how are you addressing these issues for them?
SP: Our customers expect high service quality and responsiveness, overall equipment effectiveness( OEE) and comprehensive support packages. To address these priorities, we provide a single service technician responsible for the entire system, offering one point of contact and ensuring everything comes from a single source. We address these concerns by offering user-friendly automated systems that help to mitigate labour shortages.
Our advanced sensor technologies and real-time monitoring ensure high-quality welding results. We provide flexible, modular systems that can adapt to changing production requirements, and we develop energyefficient machines that support sustainability throughout their lifecycle. competence. We are also seeing a shift towards smart factories and Industry 4.0 integration, as well as increasing demand for hybrid welding and multiprocess systems.
Customers are seeking faster returns on investment and lower total cost of ownership. In response, we are investing heavily into research and development, expanding our digital platforms and offering comprehensive training programmes to support our customers.
ISMR: Which areas or regions of growth / opportunity( geographical, technological or other) can you highlight for manufacturers?
SP: The greatest challenge lies in the ability of German companies to adapt quickly to fastchanging market demands and to respond to increasing price pressure from China and other price-sensitive regions.
At the same time, there are major opportunities in automation, digitalisation and green manufacturing. CLOOS is wellpositioned to support customers through innovative solutions and localised service offerings that meet these evolving needs.
ISMR: How do you view markets for automated welding systems and cobots?
SP: CLOOS offers the most comprehensive OEM toolbox for positioners and welding configurations in arc welding. Our goal is to further standardise and develop a powerful global toolbox, that can be used by our subsidiaries and dealer network.
Our portfolio includes cobots, standardised compact and robotic cells and complex automation systems, all designed for seamless integration with customer MES and ERP
ISMR: What, in your view, are important market trends and challenges? How are you responding to these?
SP: One of the most important trends is the global advancement of line automation, particularly in general industry. CLOOS is uniquely positioned to deliver line automation solutions with deep welding process
CLOOS offers robots and cobots for automated welding.
