ISMR : Please outline any recent successes or achievements and the reasons for this ?
GW : As a company , we have been continuously focused on improving the manufacturing technology that we sell to our customers . Some areas that we have been focused on developing , and in which we have invested heavily in R & D over the last few years , are listed below .
Inline production : The idea is for all the different steps or processes that are required for the manufacturing of any components are re-engineered so that all processes can be done on one single machine . The reason for doing this is to simplify manufacturing processes which result in material savings for customers as well as higher production speeds .
Linear and radial benefits : Most stamping and bending machines have been designed to operate in the radial manner . We have seen , over the years , the need to re-align these slides in a linear configuration to simplify the process of manufacturing parts . Our new line of radial and linear machines is a combination of both processes , which significantly reduces the time and effort required for manufacturing certain types of parts . We are also able to offer customers the option of cam- or servocontrolled systems . analytics , artificial intelligence and the Internetof Things ( IoT ) are being integrated to enhance production efficiency ; quality control ; predictive maintenance and overall process optimisation .
Energy efficiency and sustainability : Concerns over environmental impact are driving initiatives to make metalforming processes more energy-efficient and sustainable . To manage ever-increasing energy costs , researchers and companies are being pushed towards exploring techniques to reduce energy consumption and material waste .

YSM innovations
YSM ’ s product range includes stamping and bending solutions integrated with operations needing a secondary process such as thread forming ; welding ; sub-part assembly ; riveting etc . All these solutions are delivered on a single production line able to produce parts with speeds of up to 250 parts per minute .
Its modular approach means that , despite the complexity of the part or the application , its machines can be set up to run each operation independently of each other ( thereby simplifying the process and reducing tool complexities and costs ). For example , the slides can be adjusted to align in either radial or linear operation , so that users have the flexibility to integrate several processes into one machine with minimal adjustments .
The company launched the YSM 39T-CNC , a combination line with a set of radial ( mechanical ) and linear ( servo / NC-driven ) slides in 2020 and , in 2022 , a similar model with 100 % mechanically driven linear and radial slides .
“ This proved popular in the e-mobility industry where customers need to perform several complex operations on a single machine ( reducing the need for large , complex stamping tools ),” YSM told ISMR .
Easily configurable slides enabling either linear or radial operations , new safety features and Industry 4.0-compliant / IoT-enabled software are just some of the innovations that YSM has introduced over the last two years .

ISMR : Which trends do you see developing in global metalforming markets ?
GW : The metalforming domain has seen transformation since COVID-19 and has undergone drastic transformation due to various issues ( such as skilled manpower shortages and increasing costs for energy , raw material , steels etc ). To manage this situation , we are seeing new trends that companies are adopting .
