FACE TO FACE
ISMR: What, in your view, are important industry trends and challenges? How are you responding to these?
GW: One of the most important trends transforming sheet metal manufacturing is the rapid adoption of automation and robotics. Traditional metal fabrication has historically depended heavily upon manual labour, but manufacturers are now seeking solutions that can increase production efficiency; minimize human error; shorten production cycles; improve workplace safety and automate repetitive or potentially dangerous operations. This transition is becoming increasingly important as companies face labour shortages, rising operating costs and growing expectations for consistent quality and faster delivery.
At the same time, cost, revenue and profitability remain critical factors influencing manufacturing investment. Customers need equipment that delivers measurable productivity improvements without requiring excessive capital expenditure. YSM is responding by standardising its machinery and developing modular stamping and bending platforms. Depending upon the complexity of the component, individual operations can be configured to function independently or integrated into a complete production line. This approach simplifies manufacturing, reduces tooling complexity and cost, shortens set-up times and makes small-batch and high-mix production more economical.
Shorter delivery times are another major industry challenge. Customers increasingly expect machinery and tooling to be delivered quickly, while manufacturers must remain responsive to changing demand. YSM is therefore expanding its use of automation and advanced planning tools to anticipate market requirements, manage production workloads more effectively and determine which machine models or standardised components should be maintained in inventory.

production, from complex and fixed production lines towards modular systems and from long lead times towards predictive planning and faster delivery. YSM is aligning its technology, production planning and machine-development strategy with each of these shifts.
ISMR: Which issues are of prime importance for your customers at the moment and how are you addressing these issues for them?
GW: The issues of greatest importance to YSM’ s customers are rising production costs; labour shortages; shorter delivery expectations; consistent product quality; manufacturing flexibility and return on capital investment.
Customers are looking for solutions that can increase output while reducing their dependence on manual labour, minimising human error; improving workplace safety and controlling long-term operating costs.
They also need equipment that can accommodate different components, production volumes and product designs without requiring a completely new production line for every application.
YSM addresses these requirements through automation, modular machine architecture, servo-driven technology and the integration of multiple processes into a single production line. Operations such as stamping; bending; tapping; welding; thread forming; riveting and inspection can be combined where appropriate, reducing the number of separate machines, operators and production stages required.
Our modular platforms also allow individual operations to be configured independently, helping customers to simplify manufacturing, reduce tooling complexity, shorten set-up times and make high-mix or small-batch production more economical.
Quality, equipment reliability and production visibility are equally important. YSM incorporates precision servo control, IoTenabled monitoring, Industry 4.0-compatible software, enhanced safety systems and inline inspection capabilities to help customers maintain consistent quality and monitor production performance.
Tool and machine standardisation further reduces engineering and delivery times while making maintenance and future upgrades easier.
Through these solutions, combined with an international technical support network, YSM helps customers to achieve faster production, greater flexibility, improved reliability and a stronger return on investment.
