Digitised sheet metal processing

At Blechexpo 2023 in Stuttgart this November , Tommaso Bonuzzi , Sales Manager , Salvagnini Group , presented its latest starter kit for sheet metal processing . Its L5 laser cutting system offers 5G axis acceleration and over 20 % energy savings . As a world premiere , the fourth generation of the P2 panel bender and the P3Auto , a fully automated press brake with automatic toolchanger , were on display . These technologies are seamlessly integrated into unified programming and management software for efficiency in production . NEXUS is new Salvagnini software for MCU automatic sorting devices .
Panel bending
The P2-2120 panel bender that Salvagnini presented in Stuttgart combines productivity ( automatic bending and handling cycles with an average of 17 bends per minute ) and flexibility ( with its universal bending tools ).
“ No re-tooling is required because the upper and lower blades , counterblade and blankholder are universal tools able to process the whole range of thicknesses and machinable materials . The ABA automatic blankholder adapts the tool length according to the size of the part being produced in-cycle , without machine downtimes or manual re-tooling . P2 is suitable for kit or single-batch production ,” Salvagnini told ISMR .
The Salvagnini P2 panel bender automatically adapts to variations in the mechanical and geometrical characteristics of the sheet metal being machined , as well as to the external environment . Its sensors measure the actual thickness and effective size of the blank , detecting any deformations caused by variations in temperature . MAC3.0 allows it to adapt to the material being machined by measuring the tensile strength in real-time . The strength of the sheet metal measured can be saved as a reference value for a new material : the panel bender adapts the bending force as necessary to keep working within the parameters .
In Stuttgart , Salvagnini presented the AQC option in response to demand for a simple tool to speed up quality controls . AQC automatically measures , ensures and , if necessary , certifies the bending angle precision in a report . The P2-2120 on display in Stuttgart was just one of the 13 panel benders models in the Salvagnini portfolio , all differing in maximum bending length , maximum bending height and automation .
Press brake bending
Automatic set-up and tool change are two features of the B3 . AU-TO press brake . It is available in four models , with bending length of up to three or four metres and maximum force of 170 or 220 tons . The AU-TO automatic tool change device and the ATA automatic tool adjuster , which adjusts the length of the stations , significantly reduce press brake re-tooling , increasing autonomy and productivity while reducing lead-time .
Distinctive features include the Salvagninipatented upper and lower automatic toolchange unit . The tool store is covered and located in the rear part of the B3 . It can contain up to 24m of tools of up to 1000mm in length without segmentation . The press brake allows mixed tooling .
All B3 press brakes are equipped with MAC3.0 integrated adaptive technologies ; S-Crowning mechanical crowning system ; TFC2.0 or Total Frame Control to prevent deviations in the bending angle and AMS laser angle measurement system .
L5 laser cutter
A patented design , a wide automation offer and a range of advanced process control and efficiency solutions are the cornerstones on which Salvagnini has built its L5 laser . At Blechexpo 2023 , Salvagnini presented a global preview of a new 8kW high-power density source “ that guarantees 50 % higher performance ,” it told ISMR .
“ Reducing the power of the source while keeping the cutting speeds high means reducing energy and gas consumption for the same performance . In addition to lower consumption linked directly to the source , it also enables users to reduce the chiller size . Consumption is therefore very similar to that of a 6kW source ,” explained Salvagnini .
In the configuration presented at Stuttgart ,
