New automation for 6m fibre laser cutting

“ In the world of laser systems , automation plays an increasingly important role in improving the effectiveness of loading and unloading operations . Larger lasers face even greater challenges than three- and fourmetre lasers when it comes to these tasks . Whether it ’ s because of the delicacy and size of the sheet or the weight of the material to be handled , it ’ s important to note that as the size of the sheet metal increases , so does the time required for handling ( before and after the cutting process ),” Pierandrea Bello , Laser Technology Product Manager , Salvagnini , told ISMR .
The long handling times convinced Salvagnini to develop its ADLU loading / unloading device and MCU automatic sorting device ( in 6020 size ) for processing sheet metal formats of up to six metres in length for its L3 fibre laser cutter .
“ In just 60 seconds , the ADLU device automates the process of loading sheetmetal from packs and unloading the cut sheets , eliminating all the intermediate handling steps usually done by the operator . The ADLU is also a flexible solution in terms of layout as its modular , floor-based structure can be adapted to available spaces in the workshop ,” explained Bello .
The L3-6020 model also features an 8kW high-power density source ( 50 µ m fibre ). It is available in two different versions with the same cutting speed performance but differing energy consumption levels ( the standard U version and a high-efficiency E version ).
“ The 8kW high-power density source enables a cutting speed that is higher than sources with the same or higher power . It also delivers affordable energy and gas consumption ,” Pierandrea Bello outlined in detail to ISMR .

Automatic sorting
Investing in an automatic sorting device , added Salvagnini , offers several benefits such as the elimination of manual operations leading to reduced operating costs ; decreased reliance on labour ; lower risk of accidents and reduced material damage during handling .
“ In addition , sorting times can be
