What I am saying is that constantly searching for more energy by using ‘ quick fix ’ type of boost ( whether it be coffee all day long , sugar , or the use of another stimulant ) can be counterproductive , leaving you feeling jittery , frazzled , unfocused , and exhausted .

The answer to having more real energy is to optimize our energy-generating engine – the mitochondria ! Chances are that the first time you heard about mitochondria was in 10 th grade Biology class . Often described as “ the powerhouse ” of the cell , the mitochondria are cell organelles that are responsible for producing ATP ( the source of energy used for cellular processes ). Mitochondria are like the batteries within our cells that generate the energy for life .

Mitochondrial Dysfunction
Mitochondria make energy for day-today activities . They influence how you feel , how you think , and even how you move ! Unfortunately , they are vulnerable to damage .
Excessive oxidative stress , inflammation and toxins , and pathogens , parasites , and heavy metals can lead to mitochondrial damage , which causes dysfunction .
When mitochondria are damaged , it diminishes their ability to convert fuel into energy ( decreased ability to burn calories ). When the damage accumulates , cells have less energy and don ’ t function effectively . Improper cellular function leads to many downstream effects which contribute to aging and set the stage for disease . Mitochondria dysfunction is one of the inherent characteristics of aging and disease .
