Because colorful plants are rich in antioxidants , they have an ability to neutralize free radicals . Hence , foods rich in antioxidants are “ anti-aging ”. They help to slow the aging process by protecting our cells ( and our DNA !) from oxidative damage . In essence , they act as a

shield of protection ! Foods rich in antioxidants are commonly known as “ superfoods ”. Powerful superfoods include : berries ( blackberries , blueberries , raspberries , strawberries ), citrus ( oranges , lemons , limes ), cruciferous vegetables ( broccoli , cabbage , brussels sprouts ), cocoa ( unsweetened ), pecans , chia seeds , as well as spices ( like cinnamon and tumeric ).

Less Rusting ! While some foods are “ anti-agers ” slowing the aging process , other foods are “ pro-agers !” ( uh-oh ).. they actually accelerate aging ! The worst offenders in this category are processed foods . For example , processed meats ( like sausages , bacon and deli meats ), and packaged ( junk ) foods that are high in sugar , refined carbohydrates as well as additives , preservatives . A simple , yet powerful tip : if you can ’ t pronounce it , or your grandmother wouldn ’ t recognize it ... don ’ t eat it !

For a “ fast ” food option , try focusing on ready-to-eat natural options like a handful of walnuts or almonds to curb a craving , or a hard boiled egg to satisfy hunger .
