HAMILTON LOOMIS is a natural. He is HIP in every sense of the word: from those ashy Red Shoes to the rhythmic sounds that emanate from his instruments. It isn’t just the guitar, harmonica, horn section, bass, or drums that culminate in a fantastic performance by his band. It is his provocative, soulful singing, the sensible lyrics, and Hamilton’s showmanship that will stimulate every bone in your body. I asked him about the various mentors and people who have encouraged him and supported his musical endeavors: HL: There were a lot of artists who gave me spotlight when I was a teenager, but there are 2 who were really signicant in my life. The 1st was JOE “GUITAR” HUGHES: He was a master Blues guitarist in Houston who really took me under his wing. I spent a lot of time onstage with him, learning from him. He taught me so many lessons about music in general, not just the guitar…but there was that too! He was very hands-on, and he’d holler at me if I did something wrong, played too loud, didn’t wait my turn, etc. It’s exactly what I needed at the time! The 2nd was BO DIDDLEY: He gave me so much advice, spotlight, and encouragement. He also pushed me to nd my own style. He’d say, “Don’t sound like me…sound like YOU! Innovate, don’t imitate.” He also was nice enough to write and record “You Got To Wait” with me. I’m honored to have known him. His love songs are delivered with sincerity and spirituality. You feel as if Cupid has just pierced your heart with one of his arrows. They are denitely all about that LOVE thing: Fleshy. Genuine. Mature. If Hamilton were a painter, his canvas would be colored with every emotion…the colors Red, Green, Black, Grey, and THE BLUES. He plays all the instruments on his INDIE debut record. Listen to the smooth, sexy sound of “Love Again” from Hamilton’s 2007 record “Ain’t Just Temporary” and you will nd yourself in the mood…to slow dance. “A Woman Like You” is all about that perfect relationship which goes wrong, and we’ve all experienced that pain. Right! Hamilton uses THAT (pain) to deliver an emotionally intense, guitar ladled, love song. Then there is “Eternally” from the 2013 release, GIVE IT BACK. It has one of those catchy tunes that will nd you snapping your ngers and toe tapping no matter where you are at the time. Repeat: HAMILTON LOOMIS is very SMOOTH! In terms of how long musicians have been singing and performing Blues style music, HAMILTON LOOMIS is still a young artist who has grown, and mastered his instruments.
