The ski and snowboard industry has
experienced remarkable growth in the last
50 years. It is estimated that today there are
some 130 million skiers and snowboarders
worldwide, with around 2,000 ski resorts in
67 countries catering to this important
market that offer equipped outdoor ski
areas covered with snow. 1
Besides the major ski destinations in
terms of skier visits, there are a number of
new smaller destinations. The most popular
new destinations are located in Eastern
Europe and China, but there are also smaller
destinations spread out across the globe:
Algeria, Cyprus, Greece, India, Iran, New
Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and many
more.
