The development of tourism sector plays
an important role for economic growth of
Armenia, raising living standards, creating
new job opportunities, promoting small and
medium-sized
businesses,
newly
representing and capitalizing the natural
and cultural heritage of the country.
Tourism is announced to be one of the
key sectors of the RA economy, regulated by
the law of the Republic of Armenia “About
tourism and Tourist Activities,” as well as by
the Tourism Development Plan. Hence, the
programs within this sector enjoy the state
support and a number of incentives.

Tourism is a key industry in many alpine
areas. The history of mountain tourism
started in Chamonix Mountains of France. A
century and a half later, the mountaineers
introduced skiing (an activity which
originated in Scandinavia) to the Alps and
