Natural Zoos .

Have you ever wondered what was the first modern zoo ? You probably haven ' t . Well the first modern zoo was named the Imperial Menagerie as shown on the picture above . The zoo is located in Vienna , Australia . It was created in 1752 and people still visit it to this day . A man named Hagenbeck had an idea to make a zoo where animals can roam instead of being in cages . It is call a natural zoo . The first one was created in 1907 . Natural zoos tricked animals into thinking they are in the wild . It also helped people to learn more about the animals and it ’ s habitat .

Layout of a zoo .

Normal zoo layouts .

In normal zoos they organize / group the animals by their species or b there type . They may also group them in sections . For examples , mamelles are in one building or area and the undersea creatures are in a different area . There are also smaller groups inside of the sections called subsections . For examples , in the mamelle are there could be an area where the big cats are . In the ancient zoos they would group animals by native and nonnative animals . The non native animals were much more popular than native animals .

The big illusion .

When people are trying to make habitats it is very difficult to make it look and feel the exact same way as the wild . They are not able to make it look and feel as perfect as the wild . Also a former zoo director , David Hancocks thinks habitats now are just one big illusion . I agree , because the people that make the habitats look like they spend their time making it looking pretty but not spacious . A way a zoo can be good for animals is if it has healthy animals , information about the animals , habitat , and etc ., if it can entertain the visitors , and if the animals have enough room to roam .
My personal experience
One time when I went to the zoo , the first animal I saw was a hyena . There was only one and it had little space . It was lengthy but not wide so it looked like it was forced against the wall . I understood hyenas are dangerous but I think it was still sad . Also it didn ’ t have a toy .
