The beauty that comes through when gay marriage is legal is seen throughout all of society regardless of sexual orientation or gender identification. Eventually the ramifications will hopefully be that having two moms or dads isn’t leverage for bullying, but instead is just commonplace that “oh both of susie’s moms said it was okay to come over." It’s the brilliance of having gay couples simply become a seamless part of society because while the hatred and bigotry will always be there, it has taken a gigantic blow that it cannot sustain. Those that oppose gay marriage carry with them a dead opinion the US supreme court thoroughly knocked down.
In years to come those that oppose homosexuality and gay marriage will be seen as ignorant and hateful instead of possessing a “valid opinion” because intolerance of a specific group of people is not a valid opinion. Discrimination and bigotry in society cannot be looked at just another person’s opinion to be respected because once an individual starts advocating for hatred then respect of that person’s opinion needs to be diminished. With that being said, Gay marriage will not solve all of the harm inflicted on the LGBTQ community. LGBTQ individuals are still harmed, hated, murdered, outcast and driven to suicide at alarming rates that cannot be tolerated. While there is still a tremendous amount of work to be done in and for the community America has taken the first step towards what will hopefully be a brighter future.
