3.2 NON-CREDIT-BEARING INTERNSHIPS:
• are arranged on your own and you go through them as agreed with organisations;
• are not part of your degree programme;
• do not contribute towards your graduating requirements and hence, do not earn
academic units;
• are not assessed and thus, cannot be converted into credit-bearing internships;
• are not managed by NTU’s Career & Attachment Office.
3.3 REGISTERING NON-CREDIT-BEARING
INTERNSHIPS
Non-credit-bearing internships do not require NTU’s approval
to proceed since they are private arrangements. However, you
are encouraged to get them registered with us at the Career &
Attachment Office using the following URL:
https://careeraxis.ntu.edu.sg/Form.aspx?id=364289
We will look through the job description and conditions to make sure the work
provides you with a proper experiential learning experience. If so, we endorse them
as non-credit-bearing internships and thus, no employment arrangement will be
necessary (i.e. you need not be hired as an employee). This means the Employment
Act need not apply and your allowance can be CPF-exempted. An internship
agreement in such cases will work fine as long as it clearly states that you are not
an employee (i.e. the internship does not form an employer-employee relationship
between the organisation and you).
Of course, if you would like to be covered under the Employment Act, you can still sign
an employment agreement (i.e. Contract of Service) with the company for non-credit-
bearing internships.
