FINNISH CULTURE
BY ZHANG HUIBO
Taught by Juho Valtonen
I am so glad that I got the opportunity to join Juho’s workshop, learning about
Finnish culture with a real Finn!
While others marveled at Finland’s great welfare system and high taxes, I enjoyed
learning about its free, natural environment even more. In Finland, you can
walk freely in nature, anywhere you want. You can even forage and gather all of
nature’s bounties to your heart’s content. I can’t wait to go!
Besides that, my mouth was watering over pyttipannu, a dish that traditionally
consisting of potatoes, onions, and any kind of chopped or minced meat such as
sausage, ham or meatballs. It looks pretty healthy and tasty with bright color. I’d
love to have a try.
But of all these things, the most surprising thing I learned was that Santa Claus
lives in Finland! One thing for sure is that everyone deserves this trip to Finland!
