Edwin McCain: Yeah, they asked what his
dad does for a living and he sees me playing
music, but he would never associate that with
a job, so when they said working — I have
a warehouse where we keep our parts, our
production stuff and equipment, and I have a
forklift — so he told the class I drive a forklift
in a warehouse.
Insight: That’s so cool! Way to undersell it.
When they’re 16 or 17 it’s going to have to hit
them eventually, they’re in a unique position,
but do they ever hear you on a soundtrack or
anything and say, “Wait a minute, that’s dad,
why?”
INSIGHT
Edwin McCain: They’ve kind of figured it
out now, but they don’t… they kind of make
fun of me about it. They don’t see it the way
you’d think, they sort of think that’s what
anyone would do. It wouldn’t surprise them if
their best friend’s father was on television for
some reason. That’s part of what they think is
potentially part of an adult life.
Insight: So they think it’s totally normal.
Edwin McCain: They really do, I think they just
associated that. I think that’s good, though, I
never tried to impress anything on them.
Whenever I go to play gigs my wife always
says, “Well, dad’s going to work,” so they just
think it’s normal.
Insight: You’ve made it the most normal,
