You might know Edwin McCain from his 1998
smash hit, “I’ll Be,” or his Diane Warrenpenned follow up, “I Could Not Ask for
More,” both of which climbed US charts and
appeared in films and on television.
He’s performing at the Buckner Event Plaza
August 8 at 7 p.m., bringing hits and fan
favorites from his 11 albums, along with
opening support from Jacksonville’s Riley
Green.
We got a chance to talk with McCain about his
family life, his move away from record labels and
his brief stint as an actor:
Insight: Your publicist told me if we didn’t get
the phone call today it’d be impossible to get
you, you’re going to be on vacation next week,
you’re going back home to see your kids.
Edwin McCain: Yeah, that’s right, going on

vacation with some friends and their kids are
about the same age, they’re pretty fun. We’re
going to make a trip of it, take the kids to see
things they’ve never seen before.
Insight: Do you try to keep family and work
separate, or do they come on the road with
you?
Edwin McCain: No, they don’t come on the
road. My wife and I sort of made… well, I’m
going to make it sound like we made the
agreement. My wife made it really clear when
we first got together that my circus was all
mine, she had no interest in being involved
in that. Which is cool, it’s refreshing to have
that kind of relationship, it seems like people
would be fascinated with our business and
want somehow to be peripherally related to
it, but she’s never been that way. We’ve always
done the same thing with our kids, too. I think
in like first grade or something, my son told his
