Orla Gartland, ‘Did it to My-
self’ Review
Rachel Lee reviews a brand new song to see if Orla Gartland
is the sound of the future or just another generic pop star.
this therapeutic
journey of ac-
ceptance with her.
As the song comes
to a close the music
dies down and it’s
just Orla’s voice
leaving us directly
in her mind hearing
the overwhelming
regret that she is
feeling.
Tired of the same
old songs on every
one of your playlists?
Looking for some
music that speaks
directly to our gener-
ation? Orla Gartland
is the only answer.
With music that en-
compasses the mil-
lennial first world
problems we all face,
Orla Gartland’s songs
about relationships,
friendships and per-
sonal self-doubt are
sure to have some-
thing for everyone.
Orla released her first
single in 2013 and
has been rapidly
gaining popularity ev-
er since with some
songs receiving over
3 million streams on
Spotify. Her most no-
table songs include
‘Between My Teeth’,
an upbeat anthem
outlining the strug-
gles of co-dependent
relationships and
‘Why am I Like This?’
– an existential crisis
turned catchy.
At 24 years old, the
Irish singer-
songwriter from Dub-
lin has recently released
her latest single ‘Did It
to Myself’; despite being
a new release this song
has a sense of familiari-
ty and comfort whilst
still being fresh and ex-
citing to a first-time lis-
tener. The song encom-
passes an overwhelming
feeling of being trapped
and slightly lost in life
and you can really feel
as if music, for Orla, is
her therapy. As the
song builds, emotions
rise leaving the listener,
by the end, feeling as if
they too have been on
Single art-
work for ‘Did
it To Myself’
‘Although it
may seem
like a classic
pop song on
the surface,
this song is
full of teen-
age angst’
Altogether, alt-
hough it may seem
like a classic pop
song on the surface,
this song is full of
teenage angst and
it powerfully con-
nects with it’s lis-
teners, especially
when listened to
with headphones. I
would absolutely
recommend it to
anyone and would
rate it 4.5/5 stars.
If you enjoy Orla’s
music, she embarks
on her European
tour on 6/11/19,
travelling to Scala
in London on
20/11/19. Tickets
are still available
and can be pur-
chased directly from
her website.
