ROCKSALT THE SMOKEHOUSE Sitting on the harbour-front overlooking the ?shermen’s day-boats, Rocksalt’s glass walled dining room and terrace hang right over the water, giving diners unrivalled views out across the Kent coast, and even the chance to see the day’s catch being delivered direct to the kitchen. The menu pays homage to the abundance of quality local produce from Kent and the surrounding area, with local farms supplying meat, vegetables and cheese. The Smokehouse is Mark Sargeant’s ?sh and chip shop, just a few minutes stroll from Rocksalt. The original smokehouse dates back over 150 years and was transformed to create the double height refectory style dining room with a 5m high glass wall, giving diners a view of the cobbled Stade, harbour and sea beyond. The black timber boards that once clad the building now create a large wooden wall inside complimenting the specially commissioned stainless steel sculpture of a shark and small shoal of ?sh that hangs from the ceiling over the ?agstone ?oor. Enjoy the simple but expertly prepared dishes on chef patron Mark Sargeant’s and head chef Simon Oakley’s menus that allow ingredients to shine through; with dishes including Lemon Sole with Potted Shrimp Butter, Folkestone Hot Shells cooked in the kitchens Josper Grill and Cold Chocolate and Sea Buckthorn Fondant. The food re?ects the ethos at the sister restaurant, with local produce championed as far as possible, and the cooking staying simple to allow the produce to speak for itself. The local ?shermen bring in their daily catch of Folkestone ?ounder, plaice, dabs and mackerel, as well as cod, haddock, coley, rock and lemon sole to the kitchen. Other dishes include salt and pepper squid, battered scallops, whitebait and mussel popcorn as starters; ‘?sh bits’ and homemade ?sh ?ngers for the kids, and The Smokehouse’s own curry sauce and gravy as well as home pickled free-range eggs and onions. The main dining room includes a curved terrace for al fresco dining with the sweeping vista offering the perfect setting to complement the food. Upstairs is the bar and heated outdoor terrace where local beers, delicious cocktails and food from our bar menu can be enjoyed. Rocksalt also has four boutique bolt hole rooms above the sister restaurant The Smokehouse, perfect for a nights stay after enjoying the restaurant. Classic British food exper tly cooked make both Rocksalt and The Smokehouse the perfect destination for anyone keen to enjoy the produce from the British Isles at its best. 4-5 Fishmarket Folkestone CT19 6AA 01303 212070 info@rocksaltfolkestone.co.uk www.rocksaltfolkestone.co.uk 1-2 Back Street Folkestone CT19 6NN 01303 884718 www.thesmokehousefolkestone.co.uk @Rocksalt_Kent @Smoke_House /rocksaltfolkestone /smokehousefolkestone - 11 -
