The Mascar British Championship at Skegness Stadium The Mascar team made their usual trek to the seaside town of Skegness for their ‘Annual British Championship’ with a slightly different format on the cards for this year. The drivers had agreed to a one-off meeting where after all three races we would see the top points scorer take the Crowning title as The Mascar British Championship Winner 2012. For the first race, there’d simply be a draw for the grid positions. At the end of that, the final positions would be reversed for heat two and for the third and final race, they would reverse the top points giving everyone a fair crack of the whip. HEAT ONE The first of the heats saw some impressive racing with plenty of side by side action and good old Mascar style rubbing going on. With lap times of 14.2 seconds for most of the field, things were sure to be close. Unfortunately, engine problems left top FOR SALE #99 Mascar second place was Kerry [#48] and third was Juli Stanford [#11] continuing with yet more of her good form after starting from the 8th slot. HEAT TWO The second heat saw a reverse grid of the first in the start line up. Some top action with Galloway [#23] starting from pole position and taking a flag to flag victory. Following home was Championship top contender Bath [#25] and finishing third, another impressive run by rookie Aeron Cooke [#96] at only 16 he’s the youngest driver in the field. THE FINAL Going into the final, any of the top seven drivers were in a position to take the title. The final saw some over-enthusiastic moves with cars running three wide for several laps. We all witnessed a Hero to Zero move from Johnson [#69] when he clipped a wheel of Rogers [#08] while three cars wide. He took the corner in a ‘wall-of-death’ style flatout with all four wheels facing the crowd. Heat, final, Championship winning car. Immaculate condition above & below the body. Maintained to a very high standard. Has all the right bits to make this a winning car. Huge reduction in price to enable me to move to a new formula. Willing to offer a test session @ Buxton on a Saturday (or as soon as could be arranged ) and will give track side assistance if required @ first meeting (distance permitting) The move brought out the red flags and Championship contender Wilkes [#20] out of the race. A collision between Nixon [#49] and Jones [#10] saw Jones hitting the wall hard causing suspension damage taking him out of the race. Nixon suffered a front right blow out which required a simple repair and although he wasn’t able to finish heat one, he completed the rest of the meeting. Carnwell [#65] opened his account by winning his first race of the season having started on the front row. Taking www.insidestockcarworld.co.uk closed the field back up. With the restart we saw Kerry [#48] chasing down Best [#75] with Galloway [#23] in third place. That was enough to take Galloway to victory winning his first major title in the Mascar series and clinching the British Championship Title from Kerry by just five points.
