INGENIEUR
and alongside the production of new techniques for recording particle interactions . Women stopped being named in papers as ‘ discoverers ’ of new particles shortly before they were removed entirely from the process by new forms of automation .
In particle physics , where the cultures of technicians , engineers and experimentalists had to mesh to perform good science , instruments were increasingly ‘ black-boxed ’ in the form of sub-assemblies brought into the workplace from the outside . At the beginning of the 21 st century , in molecular genetics and other forms of ‘ big science ’, commercial organisations provide reliable and standardised pieces of equipment that in the previous generation ( or decade ) would have been produced in-house by experimentalists , engineers , technicians , mechanics and postgraduate students .
Among other considerations , this provides some sort of guarantee of standardisation across the field , but cost considerations and the need to express autonomy and ingenuity mean that there is still a premium on the artful creation of substitute apparatus that ‘ works just as well ’. In all this , technicians who program computers , produce data and ensure that the machines and ( increasingly ) complex systems operate properly , are more central than ever to the scientific process .
The International Engineering Technologists Agreement allows for the mutual recognition of the substantial equivalency of standards establishing the competency for practising Engineering Technologists - International Engineering Technologists Agreement
Through the International Engineering Technologists Agreement ( IETA ), the members aim to facilitate cross-border practice by experienced practising engineering technologists by establishing a framework for their recognition based on confidence in the integrity of national assessment systems , secured through continuing mutual inspection and evaluation of those systems .
The IETA therefore provides a framework within which the appropriate responsible body in an economy may , to the extent it considers appropriate , recognise the substantial equivalence in professional competence and standing of experienced engineering technologists licensed , registered , certified or otherwise deemed eligible for independent practice in another economy within which the signatory organisations have standing .
The members note that such registration will only be effective if the responsible bodies in the relevant economies accept the validity of the procedures and criteria through which substantial equivalence is established , and streamline the procedures for granting rights of practice in their economies to registrants applying through this mechanism .
The members will therefore use their best endeavours to ensure that responsible bodies in the economies within which they have standing use the International Register as a foundation upon which to streamline procedures to be adopted in dealing with applications by registrants based in the economies concerned .
The International Engineering Alliance Graduate Attributes & Professional Competencies - IETA
The International Engineering Alliance announced that all Accords and Agreements have approved revisions to its Graduate Attributes and Professional Competencies ( GAPC ) international benchmark . The review , supported by UNESCO , was undertaken by a joint IEA-WFEO Working Group that engaged extensively with IEA signatories , WFEO members and WFEO partners representing academics , industry and women globally . They reflect requirements for new technologies and engineering disciplines , new pedagogies and values such as sustainable development , diversity and inclusion , and ethics . They are well-positioned to support the engineering role in building a more sustainable and equitable world .
The International Engineering Alliance Graduate Attributes and Professional Competencies ( Sept 2021 ) are supported by WFEO & UNESCO .
