expected outcomes for engineering education programmes and competencies for independent engineering practice for the three professional tracks : engineer , engineering technologist and engineering technician . They form the basis for the three education accords and four agreements within the IEA . UNESCO and the World Federation of Engineering Organisations ( WFEO ) also recognise the GAPC as a valuable international benchmark for engineering education .
A Joint Working Group between individuals representing IEA and WFEO representative bodies was established in November 2019 following the renewal of the WFEO-IEA MoU and the Declaration on Engineering Education that was made in Melbourne at WEC2019 .
A key objective of the working group was to review the 2013 IEA Graduate Attributes and Professional Competencies Framework to ensure that they reflect contemporary values and employer needs as well as equip engineers / technologists / technicians of the future to incorporate the practices that advance the UN Sustainable Goals .
The IEA would like to acknowledge the members of the working group and all those who contributed as part of the consultation process , which has led to the approved 2021 version of the IEA Graduate Attributes and Professional Competencies .
Women Achieve Gains In STEM Fields - Forbes
Women are achieving significant gains in science , technology , engineering and mathematics ( STEM ). Despite the overall gains , certain specific fields continue to demonstrate big differences in enrolment by gender . These fields include computer science , engineering , economics and physics , which are disproportionately male .
Based on data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System ( IPEDS ), women represented 45 % of students majoring in STEM fields in 2020 , up from 40 % in 2010 and 34 % in 1994 . IPEDS has tracked enrolment by major field of study and gender since 1994 . The four STEM-related fields include engineering , biological sciences , mathematics and physical sciences .
The Research Science Institute ( RSI ), the most prestigious summer STEM programme for high school students , reports that female students will outnumber male students for the first time in 2022 , representing 55 % of accepted U . S . students , up from 22 % in 1984 .
The gender distribution in STEM fields is more uneven when drilling down into specific fields of study . Among Bachelor ’ s degree recipients , women represent only 16 % in computer and information sciences , 21 % in engineering and engineering technology , 27 % in economics and 38 % in physical sciences .
On the other hand , they represent 48 % in mathematics and statistics , 63 % in biological and biomedical sciences and 83 % in health professional and related sciences , preferring social and behavioural sciences and non-STEM fields .
Engineering Technologists of United Kingdom - Wikipedia
The United Kingdom has a decades-long tradition of producing engineering technologists via the apprenticeship system of learning . UK engineering technologists have always been designated as “ engineers ”. The term “ engineer ” in the UK is used to describe the entire range of skilled workers and professionals from trades people through to the highly educated Chartered Engineer . In fact up until the 1960s professional engineers in the UK were often referred to as “ technologists ” to distinguish them from scientists , technicians and craftsmen . The modern term for an engineering technologist is “ incorporated engineer ” ( IEng ), although since 2000 the normal route to achieving IEng is with a Bachelor ’ s or Honours degree in engineering . Modern technical apprenticeships would normally lead to the engineering technician ( EngTech ) professional qualification and with further studies at higher apprenticeship levels , an IEng .
Since 2015 , the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service ( UCAS ) has introduced engineering degree ( Bachelors and Masters ) apprenticeships . The title “ incorporated engineer ” is protected by civil law . Prior to the title “ incorporated engineer ”, UK technologists were
