ARTS AND CULTURE
South African icons are front and centre. Pieter-Dirk Uys returns with Evita @ 90 and The Echo of a Noise, bringing his signature wit and sharp social commentary, while Sandra Prinsloo’ s Die Ander Dogter is a moving exploration of family, belonging, and loss. Andrew Buckland’ s The Fool’ s Guide blends humour and physical theatre to examine our uneasy dance with contemporary technology, offering laughter with bite.
Verwelkingslied
From the Northern Cape, Garage Dance Ensemble’ s award-winning GAT takes audiences on a poetic, elemental journey. Riding in on a battered bakkie, the cast intertwines movement, text, and ritual to explore cycles of creation, destruction, and resilience, crafting a performance that honours the land and its stories.
A WANDERER BETWEEN WORLDS
The festival’ s flagship production, Eugene – adapted from Kirby van der Merwe’ s acclaimed novel – by Saartjie Botha and starring Carlo Daniels, is a raw, poetic portrait of a man straddling worlds. Streetwise yet contemplative, a seeker navigating life’ s textures with haunting clarity. And on public demand, Breyten Breytenbach’ s Verwelkingslied returns, performed by Antoinette Kellerman and Dawid Minnaar, offering audiences a final farewell to the master playwright through a journey imagined at his own funeral.
Youth voices roar through the programme. Joshlin: meer as‘ n naam confronts a community’ s silence over the disappearance of young Joshlin Smith in Saldanha Bay, demanding justice and awakening conscience. Young performers from Northlink College, the Figure of 8 Collective, and the Proscenium Drama Competition ensure the festival resonates across generations.
