ARTS AND CULTURE
The Stellenbosch University Choir
Music is at the festival’ s core. The Echoes of the Cape Doctor pays tribute to Cape jazz legend Robbie Jansen, while late-night groove seekers can sway to Oorkant die Pad, featuring Ramon Alexander, Eldred Schilder, and Bheki Khoza. The Stellenbosch University Choir brings a gala concert, combining virtuosity with joy, while the Konsert van Hoop( Concert of Hope) opens the festival with the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, young guest artists, and professional dancers – a jubilant, unmissable celebration of sound, movement, and community.
COMEDY UNLEASHED
Comedy sizzles, too. In collaboration with Kurt Schoonraad of the Cape Town Comedy Club, emerging and established comics – including
Jarryd Pillay, Keenan Cerf, Mel Jones, Jam Jam, and Khanyisile Ngwenya – take the stage at a dedicated Media24 venue, while Schoonraad himself delivers Funny Side Up.
Visual art exhibitions, literature discussions, and culinary delights round out the festival. New this year are the Food Fairies – six chefs sharing dishes, stories, and moments of pure joy, connecting memory, tradition, and innovation in ways that only a communal table can.
Suidoosterfees 2026 is more than a festival, it’ s a living, breathing home for creativity, a place where laughter, tears, rhythm, and storytelling converge. It’ s Cape Town at its most colourful, its most generous, its most alive. Here, in the heart of the Mother City, everyone belongs. IB
