Remembering Former Mayor Janice R . Cmar and Councilwoman Mary Kathleen Reynolds
In January 2024 , the Borough of Jefferson Hills lost two devoted community leaders , former Mayor Janice R . Cmar and former Councilwoman Mary Kathleen Reynolds .
Totaling an impressive 24 years of service , Mayor Cmar ’ s dedication was evident through four terms on the Jefferson Hills Borough Council and two elected terms as Mayor . Jan ’ s impact was far-reaching , from co-developing the Borough ’ s inaugural web page , pioneering initiatives such as the military banner program , and the current summer recreation program . She played a pivotal role in the designation of Jefferson Hills as an Allegheny League of Municipalities ( ALOM ) Banner Community . Mayor Cmar also spearheaded community cleanup efforts by establishing the Borough ’ s Environmental Quality Board ( later , Environmental Advisory Council ). Jan ’ s diverse contributions extended to teaching cooking classes and officiating weddings while directing proceeds to benefit the Jefferson Hills Public Library and the
Borough of Jefferson Hills Recreation Board . Jan is survived by her husband , son , daughter , grandchildren , twin sister , uncle , and numerous nieces , nephews , and cousins . Visitation took place on January 10 -11 at Stephen D . Slater Funeral Home . A prayer service was held on January 11 , 2024 , followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Triumph of the Holy Cross Parish , St . Thomas A ’ Becket Church . Her final resting place is Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery . Mary Kathleen Reynolds was born and raised in Jefferson Hills . She dedicated 12 years to serving on the Jefferson Hills Borough Council and was an active member in various organizations , including St . Isaac Jogues Church , Jefferson Hills Women ’ s Club , The Ladies Auxiliary of Floreffe Volunteer Fire Department , and the Red Hatters . A true advocate for the welfare of others , Kathleen actively participated in the Allegheny County Lunch Program and the Democratic Committee in Jefferson Hills .
Whether running the Little League concessions stands or contributing her time to numerous youth groups , she consistently demonstrated her dedication to the betterment of the community . Possessing a heart of gold , she was a compassionate individual who provided unwavering support and assistance to those in need , be it familiar faces or strangers . Kathleen found joy in cooking and baking for everyone , regardless of the time of day or her schedule . Above all , Kathleen ’ s top priority was the well-being of the children in the community . She tirelessly worked to ensure that every child felt cared for , going above and beyond to raise funds and fulfill their needs .
Kathleen is survived by her two sons , two grandsons , brother , sister , sister-in-law , and cherished friends . She is also survived by many nieces , nephews , and cousins .
Visitation took place on January 26 at Stephen D . Slater Funeral Home , followed by a prayer service on January 27 and a Mass of Christian Burial at St . John XXIII Parish , St . Isaac Jogues Catholic Church . Her final resting place is Round Hill Cemetery .
