STORYTIMES
PLEASE NOTE: There will be no Storytimes on November 23-24 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
BABY CIRCLE TIME Wednesdays, 9:30 a. m., Sept. 7- Dec. 7 Birth – 18 months Baby Circle Time is filled with lap-bounces and songs to emphasize the importance of singing, talking, and reading to baby. Babies begin learning the moment they are born and language acquisition starts very young. Each week, we read a board book out loud together, but most of our activities are about interacting with the babies individually. Some manipulatives are used as well, including shakers, scarves, and bubbles. Please stay for the second half-hour where we have some social time for the grownups and the babies.
TODDLER STORYTIME Wednesdays, 10:30 a. m., Sept. 7- Dec. 7 18 months – 3 years Toddlers and their caregivers enjoy an active program of music, stories, rhymes, and movement. We’ ve designed this half-hour for you and your toddler to have fun and learn together!
PRESCHOOL STORYTIME Thursdays, 10:30 a. m., Sept. 8- Dec. 8( no storytime Oct. 27) 3 – 5 years Explore letters, numbers, colors, and shapes through stories, songs, movement, and rhymes with Miss Carrie. We’ ve designed this interactive program to help prepare your little ones for a successful time at preschool, so we invite them in without their grown-ups.
FAMILY PROGRAMS HALLOWEEN AT THE LIBRARY Monday, 12- 2 p. m., Oct. 31 Come to the library for a special trick-ortreat family program! Hop around the library for treats and activities in your costume. Please register online.
GINGERBREAD HOUSE WORKSHOP Monday, 10 a. m. OR 1 p. m., Nov. 28 This annual library tradition is back! Bring your sweet tooth and an eye for sugary architecture! We have two sessions: 10 and 1. We provide the grahams and the iced tea container upon which you’ ll build your gingerbread house. We ask that you bring your own can of white icing AND contribute a sugary decoration which we’ ll need delivered to the library by Wednesday, November 23. This is a great program for all ages! We require online registration so we have enough supplies for everyone.
SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS GROSSED OUT! Saturday, 1 p. m., Oct. 22 Grades 4 – 7 Eyeballs, fake blood, and slime! Just in time for your favorite haunted holiday, we’ ll be checking out some of the grossest stuff out there. We’ ll even make a reusable fake scar to wear and gross out your friends and family! Register online.
READERS’ THEATER PERFORMANCE Wednesday, 6 p. m., Nov. 2 Grades 4 – 8 Join us for a fall tradition at the library! Performers due at the library at 4 p. m. Performance will be at 6 p. m. Details forthcoming!
DRAWING CLUB Thursdays, 4 p. m., Oct. 20, Nov. 3 & 17, Dec. 1 Grades 3 – 6 Do you love to draw? Do you enjoy coloring? Me too! Come draw, color, trace, cut, fold, scribble, and doodle with us! We’ ll play a few drawing games and then take some time to just draw whatever we want. We’ ll have pencils, erasers, markers and paper but feel free to bring your own supplies if you’ d like.
PAWS FOR READING Thursdays, 6:45 p. m., Oct. 13 & 27, Nov. 17, Dec. 1 This program encourages children to practice reading aloud by providing a furry, non-judgmental, certified therapy dog with eagerly listening ears! Both Callie, a yellow Labrador, and Ozzy, an Australian Labradoodle, love hearing stories. Children who read with therapy dogs learn positive associations with the practice, and over time may find their ability and confidence improved. Sign up for a 20-minute appointment and either bring along something to read or choose something from our vast array of reading materials at the library.
TEEN PROGRAMS GEEK CLUB Tuesdays, 4:30 p. m., Oct. 11 & 25, Nov. 8 & 22, Dec. 6 Grades 6 – 12 Bring out your inner geek and share what you love. Come watch anime, play board games, talk about your favorite fan theories and share the latest and greatest in gaming, movies, the internet, and more! No registration— drop in and hang out!
ADULT PROGRAMS WACL’ S COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE Saturday, 8 a. m.- 2 p. m., Oct. 15 Western Allegheny Community Library will be hosting a community garage sale. We are organizing this event to help you sell some of your older items, clean house, make money, and have fun! If you would like to sell your items at this event please register at the front desk or by calling the library to reserve one or more tables. Cost is $ 10 per table. Please pay the table fee prior to the date of the sale. If you have goods that may be desirable but do not wish to rent a table, you may donate them to be sold at our table. All profits from those items will go to the library( NO televisions or computers please). No artillery or weapons of any kind will be permitted to be sold at this event.
HOME BREWING SERIES Wednesdays, 6:30 p. m., Oct. 12, 19, & 26 Have you ever wanted to try to make your own beer, but didn’ t know where to start? During this three-part series, beer-making supplies, ingredients, and bottling techniques will be discussed and beer will be made and tested. Registration required; must be 21 years & up to attend.
