o recognize not only World Autism Awareness Day but Autism
Awareness Month, the South Fayette Township School District Pupil
Services Department hosted a student/parent presentation on
“Building Autism Awareness” on April 2, 2014. Michael “Joey” Blum, a
South Fayette High School junior, and his mother Maria, presented to an
audience of parents, staff, administration, and community members.
In addition to Joey’s presentation, he created a public service
announcement to build awareness at the student level. His announcement
was aired throughout the District and is now publicly posted on You Tube,
which can be viewed by using the following link: http://youtube/yLPipSVXVQ. A special thank you goes out to Matt Caprio at the high school for
his creative contributions toward Joey’s announcement!
Staff throughout the District participated in the annual “Light It Up Blue”
campaign by wearing blue and blue jeans. Money raised through these
efforts will be donated to the Pittsburgh branch of Autism Speaks.
The South Fayette Township School District would like to extend
their warmest gratitude to Joey and his family for their support and for
continuing to build Autism Awareness throughout the District.
