WORK CONTINUES ON THE NEW CRAWFORD POOL BATHHOUSE!
Over the past two years, the Township has considered construction of a new bathhouse at Crawford Pool. The previous building, an open-air structure built in 1964 when the pool opened, was steel supported and had a flat roof. The deficiencies of the previous building were numerous: Many of the steel support beams had rusted away and no longer supported the structure, the outside walls had shifted, the underground plumbing was cast-iron pipe and had sediment build-up that limited the capacity of the sanitary sewer lines.
After a year of concept drawings, design, and coordination of bidding documents, bids for demolition of the existing structure and construction of a new building were opened in late summer / early fall of 2025. The demolition contract was awarded to RCC Building Contractors, Inc. in the amount of $ 47,223. The award for the new bathhouse construction was awarded to two vendors, TBI Construction and East End Plumbing, for a total construction project cost of $ 2,185,494.21.
Timing was essential to this project as demolition could not commence until the day after Labor Day, 2025 and construction is scheduled to be completed by Memorial Day weekend, 2026. The demolition was completed within 10 days of the pool closing and the general contractor was on site to begin construction shortly thereafter. As of the end of January, the outside shell and interior work is ongoing.
The winter weather in our area has been a challenge, and we have lost a few prime days due to sub-zero temperatures. After construction is complete, the Township will have a great deal of work to do at the pool including concrete sidewalk work and landscaping.

Every attempt is being made to ensure the bathhouse is complete and inspected by the Allegheny County Health Department for a grand re-opening on Memorial Day weekend. We hope to schedule weekend tours when the weather warms so everyone can see the progress being made. We are excited about the changes and think that this will be a great enhancement to our community pool. haler
