SHALER AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT

Animation in Action

Students from the Shaler Area School District are joining with students from 17 other school districts across Pennsylvania to collaborate on creating an animated film, Finding Stories of Wonder in the Land of Oz. Helped by the expertise and coaching of animators from Wonder Media LLC, students are telling the story of Dorothy as she navigates her emotions about the transition from elementary to middle school. This creative experience enables students to resonate with the message of the film while gaining skills in animation and production. This exciting opportunity is made possible by support from the Grable Foundation. haler area school district SHALER AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS

Somebunny Special Visits Burchfield
Students in Mrs. Ciavarra’ s class enjoyed a visit from their new bunny friend, Patti! Burchfield enjoyed this enrichment opportunity through the Therapets program from Animal Friends. Students had the chance to visit with Patti and ask questions of her handler, Chelsea Bunney. Making the event even more meaningful, Chelsea is a former Burchfield student herself!

Reaping Lessons in Agriculture
Students at Reserve Primary School received a deeper understanding of how agriculture enriches their lives. Reserve Primary was visited by PA Friends of Agriculture Foundation’ s mobile science lab. For 3 days, students rotated through hands-on learning activities that explored the science of the farm, including plant life cycles, food science, and more.
Warm Wishes
Students from Shaler Area High School turned unused clothing into blankets for those in need. After hosting a T-shirt drive to collect old T-shirts and pieces of fleece, the Sustainability Club and National Honors Society cut the shirts into squares, sewed the T-shirt squares together to make the front of the blanket, then attached a fleece backing to the squares to finish the blanket! Thirteen handmade blankets were personally delivered to the Light of Life Rescue Mission’ s donation center on the North Side.
Full Hearts Filling Cupboards
Scott Primary students and families recently came together to hold a food drive benefiting the Bread of Life Food Pantry in Etna, supporting our neighbors in the Shaler and Etna communities. Thanks to their generosity, we collected over 665 items, valued at around $ 2,000! A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this meaningful effort!
