GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE Foreign Exchange Program Enhances Life at Plum Senior High School
Plum is delighted to host foreign exchange students through a partnership with EF High School Exchange Year . Students live with local host families and step into the halls of Plum Senior High School . This program gives students from abroad a taste of life in America as they experience the unique advantages that Plum offers . “ Our students go out of their way to make the foreign exchange students ’ experience the best it can be ,” shares Kerry Plesco , School Counselor at Plum Senior High School .
It also opens a perspective on the world to Plum students as they gain friends from around the world . Ms . Plesco explains , “ Having foreign exchange students at Plum Senior High School is a wonderful thing . Personally , working with and providing assistance to the students is one of my favorite roles . It is amazing to watch the growth in the students over the course of a year . The student body benefits from learning about other cultures . Students are able to learn and to relate to people who may have had an upbringing different from their own . Students learn to communicate and connect with these students and it is awesome to see .”
This year , Plum Senior High School is hosting three students :
• Angela , a twelfth-grade student from Italy
• Miguel , an eleventh-grade student from Spain
• Zalan , a twelfth-grade student from Hungary
My favorite thing about being here would be trying new food and seeing new places with the friends I have made in school and my host family . I feel so lucky about having them and being able to experience an American high school , which is very different from the Italian one . I love American people too , they smile every time and they have all been so nice to me , making me feel at home .”

“ My favorite things in Plum : Firstly , one of my favorite events there are the football games in the school . It ’ s a lot of fun to stay in the student section and cheer for the football team . That mood is pretty awesome . Secondly , I went to the Homecoming with my friends . I liked to dress up into elegant clothes and dance to good music . Lastly , I went to some car shows with my host family . I like cars and it was good to see a lot of cool American cars .” — Zalan
