From Plum to Prime Time: Pat McAfee Never Forgot Where He Came From
Long before he became one of the most recognizable voices in sports media, Pat McAfee was just a kid from Plum, Pennsylvania— a proud Plum Senior High School Mustang through and through. And no matter how high his star rises, that never seems to change.
McAfee, who went on to an accomplished NFL career as a punter for the Indianapolis Colts before building a sports media empire that now reaches millions of fans daily, recently made it clear that his roots remain as important to him as any of his professional achievements. In the days leading up to the NFL Draft, McAfee hosted an exclusive private gathering at The Kamin Science Center— a high-profile evening that drew some of the biggest names in football, including Pittsburgh Steelers Head Coach Mike McCarthy, Steelers General Manager Omar Khan, legendary coach Bill Cowher, college football icon Nick Saban, ESPN’ s Kirk Herbstreit, and a host of other media luminaries.

Jen Mascaro describes the decision to open their home as one rooted in a desire for connection and cultural exchange:“ We decided to host because we thought it would be an amazing opportunity for our family to learn about another culture, share our own traditions, and open our home to someone who was brave enough to come here and experience life in a totally new place. We also loved the idea of giving our kids the chance to build a connection with someone from another part of the world.”
Among many highlights, a family trip to Disney World holds a particularly special place in Mrs. Mascaro’ s heart— but she’ s equally quick to point out that the most meaningful parts of the year weren’ t always the big moments.“ Sometimes it’ s simply about opening your home, sharing your routines, and creating a place where
