PIVIK STUDENT WINS WQED WRITERS CONTEST
Logan DesCamp, a kindergartener at Pivik Elementary, is a winner in the 2026 WQED Writers Contest. An enthusiastic young writer with a passion for U. S. presidents— George Washington in particular— Logan penned a creative story titled“ George and Abe’ s Dairy Queen Trip.” He was recognized at the Winners Award Ceremony on May 30th at the Pittsburgh Festival of Books at Carnegie Library in Oakland.
SCULPTING SMILES AT O’ BLOCK ELEMENTARY
Fourth-grade students at O’ Block Elementary recently enjoyed a hands-on art experience with guest sculptor Karen Delaney. Ms. Karen introduced students to abstract metal sculpture and welding, sharing her creative process and the importance of safety equipment. After exploring the differences between realistic and abstract art, students designed and created their own original sculptures— inspired by the chance to learn and create alongside a working artist.
HOLIDAY PARK FIELD DAY FUN
Holiday Park Intermediate School celebrated the season with a spirited Field Day in May, bringing students together for a day of laughter, friendly competition, and warmweather fun. The beloved tradition is a highlight of the school year— a chance to build friendships, create lasting memories, and celebrate the community that makes Holiday Park Intermediate such a wonderful place to learn and grow.
ROLLING OUT NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Eighth-grade art students Gio Ghezzi and Jeremy Ahrens are already putting Plum Middle School’ s newest addition to good use: a brand new clay slab roller that creates exciting possibilities for young ceramics artists. Made possible through the Plum Mustang Foundation Grant, the equipment will benefit every eighth-grade student, representing a meaningful investment in hands-on arts education that will leave a lasting impression for years to come.
FILMMAKING CLUB SHOOTS ANNUAL SHORT FILM
Students in Plum Senior High School’ s Filmmaking Club have wrapped production on their annual short film, Sunrise Morning News, completing all scenes in a single full-day shoot in May. Working alongside the professionals at Magic Hour Creative, the student filmmakers gained real-world production experience guided by industry experts. The project was made possible through the dedication of teacher Mr. Levarse, who facilitated the partnership and created this exceptional opportunity for students.
