STUDENTS EXPERIENCE FILMMAKING WITH WQED
Students in Mr. Levarse’ s Filmmaking Club partnered with WQED’ s Creator Academy to shoot and edit a short production in the high school library on April 25.
The Creator Academy( formerly WQED Film Academy) draws on its partnership with teaching artists and professional mentors to teach a curriculum of the basics of digital media arts – a foundation called SCALE: storytelling, camera, audio, lighting, and editing. The curriculum is more than 100 hours of hands-on and collaborative learning and uses the latest digital media technology.
DESIGN TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Recently, two groups of middle school students and one group of Holiday Park students participated in the Design 2 Make a Difference Showcase at Winchester Thurston school. In this program, the students are tasked with creating and presenting a product to help the lives of others while documenting their learning and iteration process. Students are then judged across several different categories. Both middle school teams came home with some awards in the middle school category and one team won the overall silver award across all the different age categories. Congratulations to: Cecelia Rostand, Riley Smith, Lucia Verzinskie, Alyssa Lape, and Maddy McGuire.
