Norwin Teacher Recognized at Football Game by University of Pittsburgh College Football Playoff Foundation (CFP) and Extra Yard for Teachers campaign Photo by Norwin High School Yearbook Staff. Norwin School District’s 2019 Homecoming included a full lineup of activities for the greater Norwin community. T M r. Raymond Rakvic, a Business, Computer, Information, and Technology (BCIT) teacher at Norwin High School, was recognized on Saturday, September 21st by the University of Pittsburgh College Football Playoff Foundation (CFP) and Extra Yard for Teachers campaign. CFP recognizes teachers across the country for making positive impacts in the community while serving as role models and leaders for their students. Mr. Rakvic serves as the Department Head for BCIT. He was one of seven western Pennsylvania teachers who received recognition at the Pitt football game. “I was honored to be nominated and recognized by the University of Pittsburgh and the Extra Yard for Teachers (College in Football Playoff Foundation),” Mr. Rakvic said. “I truly enjoy working with the students of Norwin School District and I am always striving to provide the best education possible for our students.” Mr. Rakvic noted that the School District offers many opportunities for students, including the College in High School Program. He teaches both Cyber Security/Information Science and Computer Science courses here at Norwin for the University of Pittsburgh, which allow our students to earn University of Pittsburgh college credit while taking Norwin classes. Congratulations, Mr. Rakvic! he Eleventh-Annual Athletic Hall of Fame inducted nine individuals, including Dennis Fix (Wrestling); Ron Garofolo (Baseball); Andy Kalas (Soccer); Kasey Kemp (Track); Craig Kovalcin (Football); Laura Marcolina (Basketball, Volleyball); Michael Salopek (Football, Wrestling); Jessica Sharik (Soccer); Jackie Wilson (Volleyball). Three teams were also honored, including 1984 Boys Swimming; 2006 Girls Track; and 2007 Girls Track. The sixth-annual Norwin Homecoming Carnival, hosted by the Classes of 2020-2023, took place on Friday, September 27 at Norwin High School prior to the Homecoming game. There was a Photo Booth, Face Painting, Dunk Tank, High Striker, Auction Basket Raffle, Food Trucks, and Live Entertainment. Following the carnival, the Knights Football Team defeated Butler by a score of 49-21. The weekend activities continued Saturday, September 28, 2019, with the annual Homecoming Parade presented by the High School Student Council. The parade route followed its traditional path through Irwin, beginning at Immaculate Conception Church and ending at the intersection of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. The weekend concluded with the annual Homecoming Dance. 2019 Homecoming Court.
