Photo by Frank Rossi. C ongratulations to the Norwin Band and Colorguard for an outstanding season! On October 5, 2019, the band competed in the Bands of America Regional Championships in College Park, MD. In prelims, the band and guard finished in first Place in Class AA. In finals, the band and colorguard were named Regional Co-Champion along with James Madison High School from Virginia with a score of 79.35. The band and colorguard also won the award for Outstanding Visual Performance. The Norwin Band and Colorguard closed the competitive season at Gateway High School at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Marching Band Association (PIMBA) Championships. They will finish the season with a performance at Irwin’s Light-Up Night Parade on November 21st. undreds of people enjoyed the Norwin High School Theatre Company production of Sister Act, the musical, which was performed from October 24 – 27, 2019. The feel-good comedy smash is based on the hit film about a woman hiding in a convent who helps her fellow sisters to find their voices as she rediscovers her own. Ms. Lauren Scheirer was the Co-Director/ Producer along with Ms. Erin Shrader Co-Director / Choreographer. The Technical Director was Mr. Todd Leighty. Congratulations to them and the extraordinary work of the dozens of students who served as members of the cast and crew! Please come and enjoy their spring musical, The Little Mermaid, running March 19-22, 2019. Director Mrs. Scheirer is seeking children in Grades 5-8 who can sing, dance, and act to play the young ensemble and children’s chorus. NORWIN ALUMNI & FRIENDS ASSOCIATION Now Accepting Nominations for Distinguished Alumni T he Norwin Alumni & Friends Association, in cooperation with the Norwin School District Community Foundation, is now accepting nominations for the 2020 Class of Distinguished Alumni. The 2020 Class will feature up to 10 alumni who have led careers and lives of distinction since their days at Norwin High School. Nominees must be graduates of Irwin High School, North Huntingdon High School, or Norwin High School and have been graduated for at least ten years. In addition to the Distinguished Alumni, the NAFA Executive Board may select one Distinguished Friend of Norwin to be honored for their service to the Norwin community and schools. Information about the nomination process may be found online at nsdcf.org, while questions may be directed to the Association via email at alumni@nsdcf.org. Recipients of the award will be honored at the third-annual Knight of Distinguished Alumni Recognition Dinner, to be hosted in May 2020 at Stratigos Banquet Centre in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
