School Students
Excel at Math Counts
Five seventh-grade gifted students from
Norwin Middle School competed in the
Westmoreland County Chapter Round of the
Math Counts Competition in February. This
rigorous national competition challenges
students to solve increasingly more difficult
problems both accurately and quickly, and
consists of several rounds. Our Norwin students
competed against several other teams from
throughout the County, and brought home a
second-place win in the Team Round.

POSTER CONTEST
NORWIN MIDDLE SCHOOL

orwin Middle School 7th Graders participated in the Lions
Club Peace Poster Contest, with the theme “Kindness
Matters.” The finalists and their parents attended a dinner
reception meeting on January 16, 2019, at the Penns Woods
Civic Center. Students who were honored include first-place
artist, Audra Fedor, with Molly Stanley, Carson
Zadylak, and Angelina Angelcyk also receiving
accolades. In addition to her success in Norwin,
Audra’s poster won at the Westmoreland County
District-level and was submitted to the state-level
competition. Middle School Social Studies and
Art teachers appreciate the partnership with the
Lions Club, which has endured at least 25 years,
according to Stewartsville Lions Club President
Jim Lewis.
