Hahntown Elementary School Students
Help the Empty Bowl Project
H
ahntown Elementary School students in Mrs.
Shannon Glenn’s classroom teamed up with
the Crafty Shack to contribute to the Empty
Bowl charitable community project.
The Empty Bowl project helps with hunger
nationwide. The
Westmoreland County
Food Bank holds an
Empty Bowl luncheon
annually, featuring
bowls made from
children, potters, and
community members,
donated soups and
breads from local
restaurants and bakeries,
entertainment, raffles,
and auctions.
Mrs. Glenn invited a few employees of The Crafty Shack, a pottery place in Penn
Township, to Hahntown Elementary. The children in room 44 purchased a bowl and had
tons of fun painting. The bowls were fired and then donated to the Empty Bowl Project.
A Soup Luncheon will be held in the Spring where members of the community can
purchase these bowls. All proceeds will go to the Westmoreland County Food Bank. This
was a great way for the children to share their talents and give back to the community.
“PA PUBLIC SCHOOLS: SUCCESS STARTS HERE”
January Is School Director Recognition Month
E
very January, Norwin School District takes time to
celebrate and recognize the challenging and vital work
that its school directors do on behalf of Norwin students,
families and community.
School directors volunteer an average of 10 hours each
month to board work, which includes adopting policy,
voting on budgets, approving curriculum changes, choosing
textbooks and reviewing hiring decisions.
At the Board’s Regular Meeting in January, Superintendent
Dr. William Kerr led a presentation to honor the Norwin
Board of Education
for School Director
Recognition Month. Dr.
Kerr (assisted by Student
Board Representative
Nicholas Markovina) gave
each Board member a
certificate of appreciation,
and members of the
audience read statements
thanking Board members
for their service to the
School District.
Hahntown Elementary
School students presented

pride with commitment to excellence.
The Members of the Norwin Board of Education have a
