Heritage Students & Educators Attend Science Week 2016
Two Heritage Elementary School teachers and Digital Ambassadors participated in Science Week 2016 Pittsburgh. STEAM( science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) workshops for 180 educators were held at the David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh. Joining them were 65 Franklin Regional students to learn about STEAM Dreams.

24 Challenge Winners Named at Franklin Regional
Sixty( 60) fourth graders, 20 third graders, and 40 fifth graders from area school districts converged upon Sloan Elementary School to participate in The 24 Challenge ®, which is a tournament-style competition organized around the 24 ® Game. Millions of students in more than 20 countries have participated in these competitions since 1988.
Franklin Regional winners included Anika Jadia third grade finalist and Cruise Lamanna, first place in the third grade division; Julianne Landsberg, Katelynn Hyndman and Bill Scully, fifth grade finalists; and Lucy Zheng, Roman Colangelo, Nick Matus and Siddarth Ramineni, fourth grade finalists.
Over a period of months preceding the event, teachers used the 24 ® Game in their classrooms to help students hone their mathematics skills. Then— according to the official rules available on this site— schools or districts hold local or district-wide playoffs to determine which students will advance to a Championship Event.
Attending the The 24 Challenge ® at Sloan were Kiski Area, Penn-Trafford, Norwin, Greensburg Salem, Derry Area, Mt. Pleasant and Southmoreland School Districts. This is the third year that FR has hosted the event.
programs for science education in the Tri-State area by sponsoring teacher / student workshops and grants for science materials.
“ We were honored to be selected to be one of six student workshops for students in grades 4-7,” said Melucci.“ All 4th grade students at Heritage participated in a Science Week fieldtrip.”
The teacher workshops showcased the Elementary Science Olympiad program at Franklin Regional. This program has been in place for 10 years. All 4th grade students districtwide participate in this program.
