Franklin Regional Students Make
National Finals in “Duck” Tape Prom
Fashion Contest
Two Franklin Regional Senior High School (FRSH)
students won 2nd Place in the nation for the 2016
Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest sponsored by Duck
Tape. Alexis Meeker, a Senior, and Carson Wolff, a
Junior, submitted their Duck Tape prom fashion entry
to the national contest and were named one of the
Top 10 National Finalists. The fashions were posted
on a national website for the public to vote on. The
rules of the contest stated that the prom fashions
needed to be designed and made out of Duck Tape.
Ms. Meeker and Mr. Wolff selected a geometricthemed prom dress and suit for their design entry.
The students will receive $5,000 each for their accomplishment. Faculty sponsor for the event was
Denielle DeSantis.
“Our prom garments were inspired by geometric and swirling doodles once created in 2nd
grade,” said Ms. Meeker. “To us, fashion is like an artwork, so we decided to bring these doodles to
life by transforming these simple sketches into high-fashion and avant-garde pieces of wearable
art.”
For colors, Mr. Wolff said he and Ms. Meeker drew from art history and chose red, blue, black and
white - colors used in many of Piet Mondrian’s paintings.
“Our construction began with us overlapping the carefully cut stripes in a downward direction
over the two-piece gown, to follow the clean and natural lines of the body,” said Ms. Meeker. “The
cascading lines are also applied to the men’s jacket for unification. As they wrap around the body
and approach the ground, they grow larger and branch off of the dress. Our shoes were inspired
by the famous “red bottom” Louboutin stilettos, but given our signature geometric pattern.”
