for purchase, with proceeds benefiting Save
the Children’s literacy, nutrition and physical

WPMC MEETS TO DISCUSS
TRAIL EXPANSION
The Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club
hosted its first monthly meeting of 2016 on
Tuesday, Mar. 15. The meeting focused on
the expansion of the Rachel Carson Trail.
The 35.7-mile Rachel Carson Trail connects
North Park and Harrison Hills Park. John
Stephen, Project Director for the Rachel
Carson Trails Conservancy and founder
of Friends of the Riverfront, presented the
conservancy’s plans to expand the current
Rachel Carson Trail to link with several other
trails, including those at Deer Lakes Park and
Beechwood Farms.
WPMC meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the
third Tuesday of each month, March through
November, at Beechwood Farms (Audubon
Society of Western Pennsylvania) located at
614 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.

Volunteers are needed year-round
and countywide to help seniors remain
independent and stay safe in their homes.
United Way’s Open Your Heart to a Senior
initiative now has several nonprofit partners
in Allegheny County to provide volunteer
services to seniors. Volunteers can deliver
meals, take seniors to appointments or the
grocery store, help at senior centers and much

Community Outreach’s tagline, “People
