FOX CHAPEL AREA AGAIN TOPS REGIONAL, STATE RANKINGS
For the second consecutive year, the Pittsburgh Business Times has ranked the Fox Chapel Area School District as the No. 1 school district in both Southwestern Pennsylvania and the state.
The rankings, released in mid-May as part of the Guide to Southwestern Pennsylvania Schools, are based on how students performed on the 2022, 2023, and 2024 standardized Pennsylvania System of School Assessment( PSSA) in grades three through eight and high school Keystone Exams.
All the district’ s tested grade levels ranked in either the No. 1 or No. 2 spot in the region as follows:
Grade 3 – No. 1 Grade 4 – No. 2 Grade 5 – No. 1 Grade 6 – No. 1 Grade 7 – No. 2
Grade 8 – No. 2 Grade 11 – No. 1

Fox Chapel Area students and their peers from three other school districts faced off in an ultimate showdown at the first annual Unified eSports Tournament, held at O’ Hara Elementary School.
The students, in grades 6-12, competed against one another in Nintendo’ s popular Super Smash Bros. The top three students after tournament play advanced to the final bout, and all were students from Dorseyville Middle School. The winner of the tournament was DMS eighth-grader Nathan Ko. Also participating in the tournament were teams from Freeport Area and Beaver Area school districts, and Pittsburgh Public Schools.
The Unified eSports league was made possible by a $ 35,000 Moonshot Grant from The Grable Foundation and the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, and an additional grant from PlayVS for equipment and gaming codes.
