Chartiers Valley Dance Troupe

The Chartiers Valley Dance Troupe was established in 1985 originally as a dance ensemble group and has evolved into a nationally ranked competitive dance program. Coach Riley Maghery and Coach Cathy Jenkins are so thankful to continue to lead the program to new heights each year. The team has consistently placed top 4 in the Nation for the past 5 years in Hip Hop with their highest placement of 2nd in 2024. In addition to Hip Hop, the team competes in the Jazz category where they placed in the top 20 for the past 10 years with their last placement of 8th in 2025. Most recently, the team placed 1st in the Varsity Hip Hop category at the UDA Great Lakes Dance Challenge held on November 8th, 2025.

The team consists of 11 dancers who spend countless hours rehearsing and perfecting choreography for performances and competitions. It’ s physically demanding, but also deeply creative work that requires discipline, teamwork, and passion. During the school day, the students are provided the opportunity to have a Dance Production class with Maghery that offers them the chance to embrace the athletic, performance and competitive aspects of the art form.“ This year’ s team is extremely positive, hardworking and connected. They are eager to grow and continually push themselves to improve. They bring so much light into our lives,” explains Maghery and Jenkins.
The team has one more regional competition in Philadelphia, PA before they head to the National Dance Team Championships held in Orlando, FL January 30- February 1st where they will compete against the top programs across the country. They will also perform at the Annual Showcase at Chartiers Valley held on May 7-9, 2026.

Tier 2 and 3 Supports: Helping Every Child Succeed

During the 2024-2025 school year, Principal Dr. Deidra Stepko and Assistant Principal Dr. Hannah Fell worked closely with School Counselor Bethany Ward, teacher Maya Vaughan, and AHN Chill Educator Sierra Vogel, to develop Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports for students who need additional guidance in demonstrating Super Colt behaviors.

“ We have a lot of supports within our school, but it’ s critical to organize them so there’ s a clear system,” said Dr. Stepko.“ When a child needs help, any staff member knows exactly where to go. Teams can efficiently provide interventions, track data on their effectiveness, and adjust as needed. This ensures that every child gets the right support at the right time.”
Tier 2 supports offer targeted interventions for students who need extra help building specific skills, while Tier 3 provides intensive, individualized strategies for children requiring more substantial support. Together, these systems ensure that no student falls through the cracks and that the Super Colt expectations are achievable for all.
“ At Tier 2 and 3, our goal is to meet students where they are— providing focused, compassionate support that helps them build the skills, confidence, and resilience they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom,” said Sierra Vogel.“ It is such a special opportunity to be part of a school that puts so much thought and care into all their students’ success.”
