MIDDLE SCHOOL students Explore Regional History at Heinz History Center

Eighth grade students from Chartiers Valley Middle School recently visited the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh as part of their study of the French and Indian War. The trip allowed students to connect classroom learning to the historical significance of Western Pennsylvania.

Students explored exhibits highlighting the region’ s role in the French and Indian War, including the strategic importance of Pittsburgh’ s rivers and forts. They also visited exhibits on Pittsburgh’ s industrial history, innovation, sports, and cultural heritage, gaining a broader appreciation of the region’ s impact on American history.
Teachers noted that the experience reinforced classroom instruction while making history more engaging and meaningful for students.

Chartiers Valley Middle School is preparing to send three student teams to compete in the VEX Robotics Competition at Woodland Hills High School on February 14, supporting the district’ s growing focus on robotics and STEM education. This work is part of a larger initiative launched in collaboration with Dr. Castagna, Superintendent, and Jason McKenna, STEM Coordinator, to expand and strengthen robotics programming across the district.

Students have spent weeks designing, building, and programming robots while working collaboratively to solve engineering challenges. Mr. Mark McAleer shared,“ The level of commitment and excitement these students have shown has been incredible. We couldn’ t be more proud of their effort, teamwork, and how they represent Chartiers Valley.” Mr. Chad Warren added,“ It’ s been exciting to support the district’ s initiative to develop a winning robotics program and to see students apply critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation.”
