Carlynton Spanish 2 Students Bring Language Learning to Life at Local Mexican Restaurant

Learning a language goes far beyond the classroom walls for students in Spanish 2 at Carlynton Jr./ Sr. High School, who recently had the opportunity to put their skills into practice during a visit to a local Mexican restaurant. After studying traditional Mexican cuisine, and how to confidently order food in Spanish, students were ready for a real-world experience— and they rose to the occasion.
This hands-on experience not only reinforced classroom learning but also helped students understand the importance of cultural awareness and respectful communication. Many students shared that while they were initially nervous, they quickly felt a sense of accomplishment. Opportunities like this highlight the value of experiential learning. By stepping into authentic situations, students gain
practical skills that textbooks alone cannot provide. The outing was a memorable and meaningful way to celebrate their hard work— and a delicious one, too!

Spanish 5 Students Build Language Skills— and Save Lives

In our College in High School Spanish 5 course, students are discovering that language learning can extend far beyond the classroom. This quarter, they are mastering medical terminology in Spanish, focusing on the bones of the human body and vocabulary related to medical emergencies. But they are doing much more than memorizing terms— they are preparing to make a real difference.
Through hands-on, practical instruction, students are learning how to confidently respond in emergency situations. They are practicing how to use an EpiPen, splint and sling an injured

extremity, check pulse and respirations, control severe bleeding( including the use of a tourniquet), assist someone who is choking, and perform CPR and use an AED for adults, children, and infants.
By combining advanced Spanish communication skills with life-saving techniques, our students are becoming empowered, compassionate leaders who are prepared to serve their families, schools, and communities. This unique interdisciplinary experience not only strengthens their academic growth, but also equips them with the confidence and knowledge to step forward when it matters most.
