Two CMHS Students Recognized by 2018 National Merit® Scholarship Program n recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this past October, the Canon-McMillan High School Honor Society hosted a fundraiser that found its members selling pink bracelets, ribbons, tattoos and more. Students even created a Wall of Hope, which bore the names of those affected by breast cancer. The fundraising event was held in collaboration with the American Cancer Society in advance of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, which was held later that month at North Strabane Park. The event at CMHS culminated in a school-wide “Pink Out” in an effort to raise awareness in addition to funds. Canon-McMillan High School National Honor Society sponsor Julie Shuman said she was proud of all the students who took part in the activities. C ongratulations are in order for Canon- McMillan High School Students Brandon Byer and Draven Bechtel-Clark, who were recently named Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corp., which conducts the program, was presented to these scholastically talented seniors. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2018 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers more than 1.6 million students who
