The Lady Mac Wrestling Team Continues to Succeed Throughout the Season
In the world of high school sports , few stories are as compelling as the journey of the Canon-McMillan Lady Mac Wrestling team . Fresh off their triumphant win at the Myhouse
Pennsylvania State Championship in 2023 , the Lady Macs have continued their dominance into the current season , marking themselves as a formidable force in the wrestling community .
The team concluded the dual meet portion of their season with an impressive 14-1 overall record , their only defeat coming against a nationally ranked team from Ohio . This setback did little to deter the Lady Macs , who are currently ranked 13th in the country , a testament to their skill and determination . Pennsylvania has been known to produce competitive teams statewide , but the Canon-McMillan has outscored their opponents by a staggering 901 to 139 in their 14 dual meet victories this season .
The Lady Macs ' dominance is not limited to team events . They have shown their fortitude in nationally ranked individual tournaments , placing in the top 8 in all three they competed in , including the prestigious Powerade Tournament . Their victories at the Queen of the Mountain Duals and the Cumberland Valley duals , where they defeated the thenranked # 2 and # 1 teams in the state , solidified their position at the top . With wins against four of the top ten teams in the state , the Lady Macs ' success is undisputed .
A remarkable aspect of their team is that 18 wrestlers have posted a varsity win this season . Their overall record of 243 wins to 109 losses , boasting a . 690 win percentage , is impressive to say the least . Even more striking is that 224 of these wins were achieved through bonus points , including 159 pins , showcasing the team ' s effective wrestling style .
As the season progresses into the individual postseason , the Lady Macs are set to compete in the WPIAL / District tournament , with hopes of qualifying for the State tournament . This year is particularly historic as it marks the first official PIAA State Championships in Pennsylvania history , where boys and girls will compete side by side .
Among the stars of the team are seven wrestlers ranked in the top ten in the state , including Valarie Solorio , who has secured a scholarship to Iowa University . Solorio , along with her teammates Capri Chambers , Bailey Emery , who has verbally committed to West Liberty University , Evangeline Gray , Dynisty Williams , Audrey Calgaro and Natalie Rush , not only excel on the mat but also academically . These wrestlers hold an average GPA of 4.05 , showcasing the true spirit of student-athletes .
At the inaugural Girls WPIAL Championships , the Lady Macs demonstrated their unparalleled skill and teamwork , with 11 of their 12 entrants qualifying for the Western Regional tournament . Their achievements are not just a series of victories but a narrative of hard work , perseverance and unity .
