North Strabane firefighters have taken an aggressive approach to beat this statistic through routine fitness training. Training occurs at least 3 times/week and is led by Firefighter/EMT and Personal Trainer Rick Opfermann. Mr. Opfermann believes that firefighters have a strong commitment to remaining healthy, and that responders should even be considered “occupational athletes”. He leads functional fitness workouts to keep our responders ready for any emergency. While the group started off small, it has spread to some of the firefighters’ family members and other responders, like local medics.
