MOORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
KINDERGARTEN PLAYLAB
Each month, our kindergarteners take time to reflect on their favorite part of PlayLab— a special chance to show that playing is still learning. During this reflection, students share their thinking through pictures, words or a combination of both. It’ s a gentle introduction to journaling and documenting their learning in a way that feels meaningful and fun.
This has quickly become one of the favorite parts of the month. Watching students choose what to capture and how to express it— from a carefully drawn block tower to a labeled scene with friends— shows just how much learning happens through play. Over time, their reflections grow richer, their writing stronger and their confidence brighter. It’ s a joyful reminder that the best learning often begins with imagination.
Moore School continues to lead the way in innovative education by integrating NFL FLAG into its already dynamic elementary physical education program. This exciting addition gives students the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of football in a safe, inclusive and non-contact environment. Through the NFL FLAG curriculum, students build essential skills such as teamwork, strategy and sportsmanship— all while staying active and having fun.
The program aligns perfectly with our mission to provide wellrounded learning experiences that go beyond the classroom. By
As fall fades into winter, the Moore School staff is preparing to say goodbye to some favorite traditions and hello to a spring of new possibilities. Teachers from both elementary schools meet regularly to plan for bringing the two schools together next year. Which means doubling the staff and the number of students at the elementary level. It also presents the opportunity to forge a new identity for the Brentwood Elementary School!
We’ ve already held our last Halloween Parade at Moore. The only thing consistent about the parade was that the plan changed depending on the weather. The goal was to have it outside with the parents in the middle of the playground. Some years the weather cooperated; other years we crammed a lot of adults into the gym, hallways and landings. NFL FLAG FOOTBALL
SAYING GOODBYE AND HELLO!
incorporating NFL FLAG, it enhances student engagement and fosters a love for lifelong fitness. The integration of NFL Flag also engages students’ interest to play at the next level on the high school flag football team. Through the flag curriculum, students will participate in age-appropriate lessons and drills that emphasize cooperation, respect and fair play. With this initiative, we will continue to set the standard for forward-thinking education— where academics, athletics and character development all play on the same team.
mitigation years, the children paraded through the school and we posted the videos to Class Dojo.
We are approaching our last Moore School Winter Concert, which is Friday, December 12. It may be our last Moore School concert, but next year we are looking forward to seeing the show put on by the Brentwood Elementary School students!
The PTA is planning one final Fun Day. To help make it a memorable experience for our students, they will be selling Moore School shirts commemorating the school and celebrating the final year. The shirts should be available around the holidays and will make great keepsakes for all the Moore Elementary alumni! rentwood Borough
SCHOOL DISTRICT NEWS
BRENTWOOD EDUCATORS LEAD THE WAY THROUGH LEARNING GROUPS
Brentwood Borough School District educators are once again coming together in Learning Groups— collaborative teams designed to spark professional growth, innovation and shared inquiry. Each group is centered around a meaningful theme connected to the district’ s core values and the teacher’ s interest. These communities of practice allow teachers to explore new approaches to teaching and learning that make thinking visible and creativity thrive across classrooms.
Throughout the year, most recently in mid-October and early November, educators are engaging in cycles of learning, experimentation, reflection and sharing. Groups like Pathways & Possibilities, Designing Digital Thinking Opportunities, and Communities, Connections & Care are tackling questions that matter deeply:
- How do we build pathways for every student?
- What helps young people imagine their future selves?
- How might we redesign time, space, and language to make learning more engaging and equitable?
By investigating these questions together, teachers are transforming ideas into concrete practices that shape school culture and classroom experiences.
The district’ s Learning Group model reflects Brentwood’ s broader vision: a culture where professional learning mirrors the kind of learning we want for students— curious, creative and connected. As teachers collaborate, experiment and share their findings, they are not only growing their own practice but also strengthening a district-wide culture of thinking that extends far beyond the classroom walls.
