It’s that time of year again!
For all residents concerned about snow
removal, please see the following.
During regular snowfall, 4 crew members are called out to
salt the roads and alleys.
d First, the main roads are salted, after which roads used to
travel to schools will be prioritized.
d Upon completion of the roads, the crew then salts and/or
shovels public steps and walkways.
When plowing snow at a height of 3 inches or more, 5 crew
members are called out. The 5th man salts and plows the alleys.
d Please do not park in fire lanes; this will impede snow
removal vehicles and trucks, especially during heavy
snowfall when plowing is necessary.
d Use your driveway to park whenever possible.
d If possible, remove vehicles from the roadway so that the
snow removal crew can plow the whole width of the
street. There is a visible difference after plowing snow
where cars were not removed from the street. After the
roads are done and the public walkways are cleared, the
snow removal crew will be around to “push back” the
snow from the roads.
d You CAN be fined if you throw snow into the street.
d If you have an important event scheduled, please call the
Public Works department in advance so that they can
make sure your road is cleared.
d When the roads are particularly bad, there may be times
when a crew member needs to break away from his
regular route to clear the way for an emergency vehicle,
such as an ambulance.
d Heavy and consistent snows require the crew members to
plow without using salt. With some heavy snows it can
seem like the snow removal crew never made it to your
street, but they make every effort to complete their route
before starting over.
Code Enforcement Brief
Winter weather conditions can be treacherous in
a walking community; as a courtesy to pedestrians,
residents are reminded to keep sidewalks clear of ice and
snow. In residential districts, snow must be removed from
walkways within 4 hours after the snowfall stops; if the
storm occurs overnight, the snow must be cleared within
4 hours of daylight. Commercial business must adhere to
these stipulations within 2 hours. Remember, sidewalks
are wholly the responsibility of the associated property
owner. Should an individual sustain an injury on a public
walkway, the homeowner could face legal consequences.
Notice to landlords: Winter is rental registration
season. The annual $10 per unit fee is due by March 1.
Failure to submit this
document and the
associated fees will
result in the filing of a
citation and the
revocation of the
rental license.
