CITY BRIEFLY OF MCKEESPORT BRENTWOOD NEWS
“ Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”— Greek Proverb
As we move into the 2026 construction season, residents will notice a familiar sight around the Borough: traffic cones. While they may bring to mind a certain hometown team, they’ re not because of the Pittsburgh Pirates. They represent progress, investment, and our continued effort to strengthen Brentwood’ s infrastructure and community assets for the future.
BRENTWOOD LIBRARY IMPROVEMENTS
One of the most visible projects this year is the Brentwood Library Window and Carpeting Replacement Project. Bid documents are currently out, with Council anticipated to award the contract in June or July.
The project includes replacing 104 aging windows and approximately 7,500 square feet of worn carpeting, improving energy efficiency, functionality, and the overall experience for residents.
DEWALT AVENUE STREETSCAPE PROJECT
The Dewalt Avenue Streetscape Project continues through final design and PennDOT review, with ongoing utility coordination. Pending approvals, the project is expected to be advertised in July, with construction targeted for fall 2026.
This investment will enhance the corridor’ s appearance and functionality, with approximately 50 percent of the estimated $ 1 million cost funded through grants.
FORMER BOROUGH BUILD SITE REDEVELOPMENT
Redevelopment of the former Borough Building site remains a key long-term initiative. The Borough continues working with the development team on a public-private partnership to bring ground-floor retail, market-rate apartments, and parking to the site.
With an anticipated private investment of $ 15 to $ 16 million, this project has the potential to significantly
50 BRENTWOOD-BALDWIN-WHITEHALL strengthen Brentwood’ s economic and community landscape.
FIELD NO. 4 ADA IMPROVEMENTS- DESIGN PHASE The Field No. 4 ADA Improvements Project has entered the design phase in coordination with LSSE, focused on accessibility improvements, layout, and cost efficiencies.
The project will enhance usability within our park system, with the Borough pursuing grant funding to offset the approximately $ 1 million construction cost.
TRI-COMMUNITY FIRE COLLABORATION STUDY The Borough is participating in a regional study with Baldwin and Whitehall to evaluate fire service collaboration, including stakeholder input and operational analysis to identify opportunities for improved service delivery and efficiency.
While still in the early stages, this reflects Brentwood’ s commitment to proactive planning and regional cooperation.
MOVING FORWARD Each of these projects represents an investment in Brentwood’ s future, with the shared goal of enhancing quality of life and ensuring our community continues to thrive.
These projects— even those involving a few extra“ traffic cones”— are about long-term investment and stewardship, not short-term inconvenience.
As always, we appreciate your continued support. God Bless!
